The Shepherdess

Sing in me, daughter muse,
Goddess of beauty and charm,
Creativity and good cheer,
Lay your bounty upon the table,

Luxuriously, like the sister of Bouguereau,
With the brown frock around her waist,
Hips swung wide and fertile,
As Prenses Banu.

Are you a sign from God?
Are you his lamb?
Does the dew soak into you
And leave the ground dry?

Does his presence rest on you,
Daughter of suffering?
Will he wring you out
To fill his bowl?

Permit me, sister,
To touch your womb:
Just one request
I make of you.

Will you spend the night alone?
Will you rest on a rock?
Will you be sheltered
From raging storms?

Anointed One,
With dew from heaven,
Lamb of God,
Sign of deliverance,

Who bears eternal fruit
Beneath your supple skin.
