Moon Landing (for Ben)

I  came out tonight
To see yesterday's full moon,
Shining almost as brightly,

And I wanted
To send a letter to the President,
Reigning almost rightly,

And I wanted
To tell him to send another man to the moon,
So that I could see

It with my own eyes.

But I got distracted,
By looking at Facebook,

And instead of writing that poem
About the moon
And how we'd one day step on it again,

There was another article
About the moon,
Used by hunters to measure Time,

And another
About teachers in California
Who shouted, "TAX THE RICH!"

And an infographic about the death of our planet.

President Obama,

Before the turn of this decade,
Place a man on the face of Mars,
A man like Neil Armstrong
Or Buzz Aldrin,

Or me.
