What She Said

No one in particular is upset:
It's just that the things you communicate
Are very difficult to consider.

And we are all becoming very tired
Of your relentless obsession
With making us think about these things.

Take the stray dog, for instance,
The one that was flattened in the streets
And about which you wrote very graphically.

Was it necessary to mention the color of the entrails,
The movement of the maggots,
The blurring of lines between fur and flesh and flesh and soil?

Stop, please. Give us some peace.
We've just finished a long day at work,
And we would like to retire to dinner, and some television.
