Last night I lay face down in a fallow field
Beneath the waxing crescent moon,
And I kissed the ground as I would kiss a woman:
The still odor of caves in my nostrils,
A leaf of grass on my cheek,
Walt Whitman on my tongue,
The dust of mountains on my teeth.
