38

Thirty-eight. It's as good a time to start
As any other time, I do suppose.
But what I'd like to tell you from my heart
Is this: What goes in as easily goes
Out. So why even bother to begin
If what you want is to hold on to all
You can? It's better for you to depend
Upon nothing but change. For when the roll
Is called Up Yonder, there won't be a thing
You'll be able to take, just what you leave
Behind: A good name for your kids to wear,
A steady faith to help them to prepare
For life's storms and for lies that will deceive
Them as they search naively for meaning.
