Abigail

If David had slaughtered the Calebite--
Not to be stopped by fairest Abigail,
Discerning that God wanted faithfulness
From his servant, not hands stained with blood,
But instead had pursued his enemy
To wreak the revenge of a worldly king
Who felt the disdain of a selfish lord,
Refusing to feed the army of God--
Would David have been found obedient,
Free from the blood guilt of self-righteousness,
Unable to quicken the dead he'd killed,
Or set his glory in eternal stars?
His wrath was stayed by faithful Abigail,
Who fed him from the storehouse of her self.
