Mother

Who else will feed me when I am hungry?
Who else will shelter me when I am lost?
Who else will suffer the tears of a grown man,
Who lays his head in her lap?

With your heart you taught me how to love
With kindness and compassion
With service and long suffering
With no reward.

What shall we do when you are gone?
What can we do without you?
What mercy will be shown to us?
What grace will wipe our tears?

I wish I could write a poem
As beautiful as you.
